Southern Cruising Waters: What are the southern cruising waters covered by SOUTHWINDS? For southern sailors, those are the coastal waters and inland lakes from the Carolinas south through Georgia, all of Florida down through the Keys and up into the Northern Gulf states. Then throw in the Bahamas, Cuba and the Caribbean! Fascinating stories by and about the sailors cruising these waters are an integral part of our editorial mix.
Lessons Learned: Sailors learn from the experience of other sailors. In this section, sailors contribute stories of lessons learned under sail.
Maritime Law: SOUTHWINDS addresses legal concerns for sailors and boaters in periodic columns about this important subject.

Hurricane Season: During the June through November hurricane season SOUTHWINDS provides tips and strategies to safeguard your sailboat as well as the best links to accurate weather and tide information in the area. During the hurricane season our “Hurricane Protection” section features articles on protecting your boat at the dock or at anchor.
Short Tacks: This up front section features news items, business briefs and general tidbits of interest to southern sailors. It will also highlight important upcoming southern sailing events.

Bubba Whartz: Monthly, the tales of live-aboard sailor Bubba Whartz, written by well-known writer Morgan Stinemetz, come to readers of SOUTHWINDS. Bubba grew up with SOUTHWINDS and has been an ever-returning character in the magazine since 1994. Knowledge of the adventures of Bubba goes far beyond southern readers.
