Southwinds Magazine is the news and information source for cruisers and racers in the Southern United States. Doran Cushing founded the magazine and the first issue was December, 1993. The magazine was then located in St. Petersburg, Florida. In May, 2002, Steve Morrell, the current Publisher and Editor, purchased the magazine from Doran Cushing and his first issue was July 2002. 

     Southwinds magazine covers sailing, cruising, racing and other events of interest to sailors in general, but particularly to sailors in the eight southern states the magazine is delivered to: North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. The magazine covers sailing news in those areas and also in the Caribbean and the Bahamas. 

     Southwinds has always had an interest in the largest island in the Caribbean, Cuba, and has been a source of information for sailors wishing to go to Cuba since the magazine’s birth in 1993. Southwinds believes that sailors have a right, without interference, either domestic or foreign, to sail to Cuba and promotes the freedom of American sailors and sailors from around the world to do so. 

     Southwinds is delivered to over 500 locations in eight southern states, plus St. Thomas, the Virgin Islands. The magazine is delivered to yacht clubs and sailing associations, marine stores, yacht brokers, marinas, boatyards, sail lofts, sailing schools, and other sailing-related locations.      Subscriptions are sent throughout the United States and the Virgin Islands. We will mail subscriptions anywhere as long as their are no vicious dogs, or other entities, nearby that could do harm to the delivery person.
